As we begin the year 2015, we have the opportunity to review the past, evaluate what worked well, and also make changes. I believe in new starts. Once a very close friend gave me a beautiful vase of flowers with a card that said “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” What an encouraging note.
The Scriptures have the same significant message: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 ( New Living Translation)
When you ask Christ to become Lord of your heart and life, He does make changes. I finished the book “Unbroken”, by Laura Hillenbrand, which is an amazing story of Louis Zamperini who ran in the Olympics in 1936. While in the US Air Force, he was shot down in 1943, stranded at sea for 47 days and then endured the life of a prisoner of war by the Japanese. At his lowest, in 1949, he had the opportunity to hear Billy Graham and committed his life to Christ. Nightmares and alcoholism ceased immediately. Then Louis became an inspiring speaker who taught about forgiveness and his new life in Christ until he died in 2014 at 97. There are two movies about his life, one “Unbroken” and the other “Louis Zamperini: Captured by Grace.”

Although some people are changed immediately by the Holy Spirit, others, like me, see the changes happen gradually as I spend time, reading the Word and allowing the Holy Spirit speak to my mind.
